Residency at the Salzburg Festival Archive: Iz Paehr
Residency im Salzburger Festspielarchiv: Iz Paehr
Iz Paehr works in Berlin with and on virtual structures. For 2025, Iz Paehr was awarded the residency of the S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o Residencies Programme* at the Salzburg Festival Archive, implemented in cooperation with Ars Electronica as a dissemination partner.
Through a jury process which included the renowned Austrian artist Eva Schlegel, among others, a concept by the Berlin-based artist Iz Paehr entitled Feeling Backwards: An Archive of Touch was selected as the winning project. Iz Paehr takes obstructed knowledge derived from experience and the senses as a point of departure for developing virtual interfaces enabling multi-sensorial access to materials from the Salzburg Festival Archive
As a dissemination partner, the Salzburg Festival cooperates with Ars Electronica within the S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o Residencies Programme. (During the Reinhardt Year 2023, the virtual recreation of the famous Faust City inside the Felsenreitschule was the Festival’s first collaboration with Ars Electronica.) Supported by EU funds, the programme unites science, technology and arts under the motto “Cultural Heritage Through New Technologies”. The one-year residency programme calls for close cooperation of all those involved. After a kick-off meeting this past December, Iz Paehr visited the Festival Archive and Ars Electronica in Linz in February 2025 to get to know those involved and to collect first ideas.
