Letters and written correspondence in the fields of politics, science, art and literature played an important role well into the 20th century. They live on as historical sources, contain important background information, are both formal and private, intimate and public — and form their own literary genre, one that has been completely displaced by digitalized communication. Over the course of three readings, couples who played crucial roles in shaping the performing arts, literature and philosophy of the 20th century will be introduced through their correspondence.
